For general readers, the most noteworthy updates are the new U.S. customs clearance rules for overseas online purchases, TikTok's new shopping features, and AI-driven holiday shopping trends.

1. Stricter U.S. de minimis customs rules: Shipments valued at $2,500 or less must be declared before or on the day of arrival. Postal parcels now require a new Type 13 filing, which must include the sender's identity, address, and tracking number. If a valid declaration is not completed within 15 days of arrival, the package will be considered abandoned and may be returned or destroyed.

2. TikTok launched an AI shopping assistant and Buy Direct one-click checkout, which can answer questions about product details, logistics, sizing, and inventory in conversation and allow direct ordering. 65% of consumers plan to use AI-assisted shopping during the holiday season, mainly to find discounts, get inspiration, and discover new products.

3. TikTok Shop Mexico's average daily GMV grew 133x in one year. 65% of users who discover products on TikTok will buy through the platform. However, only 29% of consumers trust AI agents to handle payments. Younger, high-income consumers prefer AI shopping and are more likely to choose niche brands.

Brand owners can gain channel landscape, marketing tools, and consumer trend insights from this article.

1. Channel landscape: Amazon leads German online retail with a 63% share; third-party sellers contribute 46.1%, and Prime members account for 59%. SHEIN and Temu have smaller absolute volumes but are growing faster. Temu's Poland site lost about 4.2 million visitors in four months due to tighter tariffs, so brands should assess policy risks in each market.

2. Marketing tools: Instagram launched live shopping ads in Brazil, allowing brands to turn live streams into ads served to non-followers; median ROAS is 3.3x, with beauty, home goods, and retail already testing it. TikTok's AI shopping assistant understands context and remembers preferences, shortening the path from discovery to purchase. In the UK, SHEIN built brand awareness through festival partnerships, an Oxford Street pop-up, and Christmas ads, generating £2.58 billion in revenue, surpassing ASOS.

3. Consumer trends: 65% of consumers will use AI-assisted shopping during the holiday season, with younger and higher-income shoppers using it more often and gravitating toward independent niche brands. In Latin America, FMCG e-commerce is growing 26.7% online, four times the offline rate. Health and beauty products have an average order value more than twice that of other categories. Seasonal items contribute 63% of sales, and promotions can influence up to 25% of online orders.

Sellers need to focus on the new U.S. customs rules, new platform features, and emerging market opportunities, while staying alert to policy and traffic risks.

1. Risks and responses: The U.S. plans to tighten customs clearance for low-value goods under $2,500. Type 11 filings must be completed before or on the day of arrival. The postal channel adds Type 13, requiring sender information and tracking numbers. If no filing is made within 15 days, goods may be destroyed or returned. Temu's Poland site lost 4.2 million visitors in four months due to tighter tariffs, so compliance and lead-time costs will rise.

2. Platform opportunities: TikTok Shop Indonesia launched a pre-order feature with a 3-to-15-day fulfillment window, suitable for customized and pre-release products. Amazon AGL added Air SMP and Economy Air; starting in Q4 2026, $0 FBA inbound placement fees will extend to air freight, reducing restocking costs. AliExpress is testing an Elite membership plan for customers spending over $800 a year, offering 5% discounts and dedicated customer service.

3. Growth markets: TikTok Shop Mexico's average daily GMV grew 133x in a year, and active sellers increased 59x. Shopee's Brazil international platform has opened to small and medium sellers, with 19,000 sellers listing 1.4 million products, aiming to reach 150,000. Latin American FMCG e-commerce is growing 26.7% online, with Mexico growing at 35%.

4. New business models: AI agent shopping is becoming mainstream. 65% of consumers use AI-assisted shopping during the holiday season, but only 29% trust AI to handle payments. Sellers can start by providing AI-recognizable product information and discounts.

Factories can gain insights in three areas: product demand, production organization, and digitalization.

1. Product demand: AI-related goods contribute 76% of the incremental growth in global merchandise trade, with strong demand for AI hardware and components. Latin America's FMCG e-commerce market exceeds $8 billion; health and beauty products have an order value twice that of other categories, and seasonal items account for 63%. These areas offer opportunities for targeted product development. Younger, high-income consumers are more likely to use AI shopping and prefer independent niche brands, so personalized, well-designed products will be favored.

2. Production organization: TikTok Shop Indonesia's pre-order feature allows customized, pre-release, and soon-to-be-relaunched products to set a 3-to-15-day fulfillment window, suitable for make-to-order and small-batch customization. Shopee's Brazil international platform helps small and medium sellers export, allowing factories to reach Latin American markets through sellers.

3. Digitalization: The new U.S. customs rules require earlier declaration and tracking information, pushing logistics digitalization. YunExpress became an Amazon FIST-certified carrier and launched ShipTrack, synchronizing data to the backend at shipment. Meta and other companies are developing the AI agent protocol PAP; in the future, AI agents will directly access company websites, so factories need to prepare standardized product data and interfaces.

Service providers should pay attention to logistics compliance upgrades, AI technology deployment, and industry growth data – these correspond to three types of opportunities.

1. Logistics and customs pain points: The proposed U.S. rule moves declaration for low-value goods to before or on the day of arrival. The postal channel adds Type 13 requiring sender information and tracking codes; goods not declared within 15 days may be destroyed. Cross-border logistics lead times and data capabilities become critical pain points. Amazon AGL added air freight products and expanded its $0 inbound placement fee. Shopify expanded its European logistics services, allowing batch order processing, label printing, picking and packing from the backend, reducing system switching.

2. New AI technology: TikTok launched its AI shopping assistant and Buy Direct, enabling one-click in-platform purchasing based on the UCP protocol. Meta, together with Shopify, Stripe, Walmart, and others, is developing the AI agent protocol PAP, based on OAuth, which in the future will let AI agents access websites and APIs; payments are also planned. Instagram's Brazilian live shopping ads show a median ROAS of 3.3x, making them suitable for performance marketing.

3. Trends and opportunities: AI-related goods contribute 76% of incremental global trade. U.S. e-commerce grew 10% in the first three quarters of 2026, with AI-driven Google and Meta ads as core drivers. Shopify's market share grew 14.2%. Latin American FMCG e-commerce is growing four times faster online than offline, with high average order values in health and beauty. Service providers can offer services around AI-driven product selection, ad optimization, and compliance filing systems.

The article reveals competitive dynamics, new tools, and new regulations among platforms; marketplace operators can use these to adjust merchant recruitment and risk-control strategies.

1. Latest platform moves: TikTok launched an AI shopping assistant and Buy Direct; its Indonesia site opened pre-orders with 3-to-15-day fulfillment windows; Mexico GMV grew 133x in a year. Amazon AGL added air freight services and expanded $0 FBA inbound placement fees. AliExpress is testing an Elite membership plan for users spending over $800 a year and expects to reach 1 million members by year-end.

2. Merchant recruitment and ecosystem: Lazada's Tmall One-Click Global project has attracted nearly 10,000 Tmall brands, with quarterly transaction growth in double digits. Shopee's Brazil international platform has attracted 19,000 sellers listing 1.4 million products, targeting 150,000, providing a case study for platform recruitment. Instagram's Brazilian live shopping ads are attracting beauty, home, and retail merchants; professional accounts with over 1,000 followers can use the feature.

3. Risk mitigation: U.S. CBP is tightening clearance for low-value goods; platforms need to remind sellers and logistics providers to complete declarations in advance or packages will be destroyed. Meta banned ByteDance's ad placements in seven markets including the U.S., Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam, and also restricts third-party advertisers from driving traffic to TikTok; relevant platforms should watch traffic-channel compliance. Temu's Poland site lost 4.2 million visitors due to tighter tariffs; platforms should monitor policy risks.

This article provides researchers with multi-dimensional material on AI reshaping e-commerce, tightening cross-border policies, and the emerging market landscape.

1. New industry trends: AI-related goods contribute 76% of the incremental growth in global merchandise trade. A DHL report predicts global merchandise trade will grow at an average annual rate of 3.4% through 2029. AI agent shopping has become a mainstream holiday-season trend for the first time: 65% of consumers use AI-assisted shopping, but only 29% trust AI agents with payments, revealing a gap between technology and trust. U.S. e-commerce grew 10% in the first three quarters of 2026, with AI-driven ad conversions as a core driver.

2. New issues and policies: The U.S. CBP proposes to adjust low-value goods clearance rules, moving declarations to before or on the day of arrival. The postal channel adds Type 13 electronic filing requiring sender identity, address, and tracking code; after 15 days without a filing, goods are considered abandoned. This could reshape small-parcel cross-border trade. Temu's Poland site lost 4.2 million visitors in four months due to tariff tightening, showing that trade policies significantly affect platform growth. Meta's ad ban on ByteDance spans seven markets, indicating geopolitics is entering the digital advertising ecosystem.

3. Business model innovation: TikTok launched an AI shopping assistant and Buy Direct one-click checkout, realizing agentic commerce based on the UCP protocol. Meta and other companies are developing the Personal Agent Protocol (PAP), an open standard allowing AI agents to visit merchants on behalf of consumers, with payments planned. AliExpress's Elite membership plan uses an invite-only, tiered service model. Instagram's live shopping ads, with a median ROAS of 3.3x, validate a new path for content-driven e-commerce.

5 Shopify:AI
