FinTech platform Adyen expects to add as many as 1,100 specialized engineering and go-to-market roles this year to meet the needs of its existing commercial momentum and to capture growth opportunities, Interim Chief Financial Officer Hwa Tsao said Wednesday (Oct. 28) in prepared remarks for the company’s third quarter earnings call.

Tsao said this while sharing that during the third quarter, Adyen saw year-over-year increases of 23% in net revenue, which reached 738 million euros, and 30% in processed volume, which reached 451 billion euros.

Adyen’s gains were driven by winning a greater share of volumes from its existing enterprise merchants, onboarding what is shaping up to be its largest ever cohort of new enterprise customers and adding the recently acquired Talon. One and Orb, Tsao said.

“The momentum we see gives us substantial confidence in the opportunity ahead, and we have decided to step up our investment to capture it,” Tsao said.

That investment includes Adyen adding 426 full-time equivalents (FTEs) so far this year, as well as 399 from Talon. One and Orb. By the end of the year, with new hires and the additions from the acquired companies, Adyen expects to add a total of 1,000 to 1,100 FTEs, Tsao said.

“We intend to continue investing to win more of our addressable market given the size of the opportunity ahead,” Tsao said. “When we see high-conviction growth opportunities — including the strong merchant pull for Orb and Talon. One — we move decisively.”

Adyen announced in April that it was acquiring Talon. One, a platform for loyalty and incentives that serves more than 300 global merchants, and announced in June that it was buying Orb, an enterprise billing platform that tracks real-time usage data and translates complex pricing contracts.

Adyen Co-CEO Ingo Uytdehaage said in the prepared remarks for Wednesday’s earnings call that he is “very excited to see how integration is going” and that these acquisitions are “one of the reasons why we’ve decided to double down our investments in this area.”

With the acquisition of Orb, Orb customers are starting to transfer their payments to Adyen. The acquisition of Talon. One has also been well received by retailers who are looking for in-store loyalty solutions, Uytdehaage said.

Adyen’s third quarter growth included gains across its businesses, with year-over-year increases of 16% in Digital, 29% in Unified Commerce and 46% in Platforms, according to a Wednesday press release.

Platforms’ gains were driven by rapid growth in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) segment, especially in financial services and insurance; Unified Commerce’s growth was driven by wallet share gains, scaling global customers and the addition of Talon. One; and Digital increase was driven by wallet share gains, according to a Wednesday business update.

Looking ahead, Uytdehaage said in his prepared remarks that he expects agentic commerce to run on Adyen, just as today’s global commerce runs on Adyen.

“The reason why we’re so well positioned is because we’ve built all the different components that are needed for agentic commerce in the past,” Uytdehaage said. “So, we’ve built authentication layers, we’ve built fraud systems, we’ve built ways to make settlement as efficient as possible, and that’s exactly the infrastructure that you need to build. And no one has this infrastructure like we do, and that’s why we’re so well positioned.”
